Research Committee

The Research Committee acts as a liaison between GASP and the prospective researchers, providing information about conducting research with GASP and providing support and expertise in order to help ensure a smooth and productive outcome. A Research Review Committee, made up of the Research Chairperson, the president-elect, and one other ad-hoc member appointed by the president, will consider proposed research and will advise the executive board, who will approve or disapprove the research.

GASP offers financial assistance for research deemed appropriate in helping to meet research needs in the field of school psychology. Aleada Lee Tarver is the chairperson of the GASP Research Committee.

Aleda can assist you if you have a proposal for research. Student members are especially encouraged to apply for assistance with thesis and dissertation expenses.

Proposals should  be addressed  to :

General Research Guidelines

Proposal Specifics

Those interested in conducting research with GASP should submit a letter of request and a one page abstract of the proposed research to the Chair of the Research Committee. The abstract should include:

  • reasons for the study

  • methods of conducting the study

  • the extent to which GASP members will be involved in the study

  • the nature of assistance is requested from GASP

  • an estimated budget (if applicable)

If the research is approved, a letter of agreement will be drafted between GASP and the researcher(s) requiring the results of the research be furnished to GASP as soon as they are available.

Approved researchers, who plan to distribute surveys or conduct research at a GASP conference, are required to coordinate their activities with the research committee and the conference committee chairpersons at least two months in advance of the conference.

A limited amount of funds are available to GASP members who apply for funding. The funds are awarded on a first come, first served basis and recipients are required to sign a contract agreeing to share their findings with the general membership via the GASP Dialogue (published quarterly) or conference presentation within one year of the award of funds. Time extensions will be considered under reasonable circumstances by formal request sent to the research chair and approved by the research committee.
