Outstanding Advocate & Children's Friendship Guidelines
Children's Friendship Award Information
Description
The GASP "Children's Friendship Award" is given to an individual or group
outside the profession who has supported political action and advocacy on
behalf of children at the state and/or national level. Such advocacy
efforts should focus on improving education and mental health services for
children, youth, and families. Nominees must have worked to make systemic
changes in policies that govern the provision of education and mental
health services at the state and national levels. In addition, nominees'
efforts must be supportive of GASP's mission and goals. Clear evidence of
the nominee's efforts to improve the education and mental health services
for children must be documented. The recipient of the 2006 "Children's
Friendship Award" will become GASP's nominee for the NASP "Special Friend
of Children Award" during the 2006-2007 school year.
Eligibility
1. Must have contributed in meaningful ways to advocating for education,
children, and youth at the state and/or national level.
2. Advocacy efforts must be documented.
3. The nominee's efforts should be consistent with GASP's mission and
goals.

Members of the Georgia Association of School Psychologists
What Must Be Submitted
1. A "Children's Friendship Award" nomination form.
2. A one-page description that justifies the nomination.
3. Three (3) letters of recommendation.
INCOMPLETE NOMINATION PACKETS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED. Additional
supporting documentation, such as a resume or vita, may be included in the
nomination packet. The award winner will be announced and the award will
be presented at the GASP Spring 2006 meeting/training at the Clayton
County Center for Performing Arts.

Outstanding Advocate Award Information
Description
The GASP "Outstanding Advocate Award" is given to an individual GASP
member who has clearly shown his/her advocacy efforts to improve education
and mental health services for children, youth, and their families. This
individual has worked to support GASP's/NASP's legislative efforts, goals,
and mission, through state or national government and professional
activities. The individual nominee may also have worked in establishing
collaborative partnerships with other groups who work on behalf of
children. Nominations must give clear documentation of the above efforts.
GASP's winner of the "Outstanding Advocate Award" in 2006 will become
GASP's nominee in 2006-2007 for a similar award from the National
Association of School Psychologists' Government and Professional Relations
Committee.
Eligibility
1. Must have contributed in meaningful ways to advocating for education,
children, and youth.
2. Advocacy must be documented through recommendations and supportive
materials.
3. Nominee must be a current GASP member.

What You Must Submit
A complete nominations packet must include:
1. An Outstanding Advocate nomination form.
2. Three (3) letters of recommendation.
3. A one-page description of why you are nominating this person.
4. The nominee's current resume or vita.
When to Submit Nominations
Nomination packets must be postmarked by March 15, 2008.
