Dear GASP Members,
As you can tell by the flurry of emails addressing the "hot topic"
of the proposed APA Model Licensure Act, this is a key issue that
the GASP Executive Board takes very seriously. If you are not
familiar with this topic, I recommend you go to the NASP website (
www.nasponline.org )
and read the documents related to this issue. I feel it is important
to keep you up to date on the actions of the board.
The entire GASP Board is actively working to advocate for the
practice of school psychology in the state of Georgia by contacting
key stakeholders (GCASE, GSSA, PSC, DOE, etc) regarding this matter.
Our Legislative Chairman, Katie Edwards, continues to serve GASP
members in alerting us to legislative issues which most directly
impact our role as School Psychologists. We also have liaisons from
PAGE, GAE, GCASE, and GPA who are working jointly with GASP on
critical issues such as this.
Additionally, several members of the executive board met Monday
afternoon in Atlanta. We worked into the evening drafting the
official GASP response to the American Psychological Association
regarding the proposed MLA. This letter has been mailed to APA. It
is attached for your information. We have also put together an
official GASP response document for you to use with your
legislators. Your involvement in contacting your legislators is
imperative. This document will be sent out via email from the region
reps early next week.
Please feel free to email me with any questions. You can also
contact your region representative concerning this matter. Please
check your emails and GASP website over the next week for documents
and updates.
Thank you,
Dr. Tracy L. Boney, NCSP
President
