Dear Members:
With the school year drawing to a close, this is a busy time. NASP has
been busy, too, and I have some new member resources to share with you.
I am pleased to invite you to join fellow NASP members and nationally
renowned expert Brian McKevitt for the first Best Practices V Online
Learning Event, 'Developing a Positive Behavior Support System at the
School Level.' During the week-long event, May 5-9, NASP members will be
able to respond to posts from Dr. McKevitt, ask him questions, learn
more about available resources, and share their challenges and
successes. The event will take place in the new NASP online Communities,
accessible at
www.nasponline.org/communities/default.aspx
NASP has recently launched a new initiative to promote diversity in the
profession. The Cultural and Linguistic Diversity (CLD) Ambassadors of
Recruitment Program involves making presentations on careers in school
psychology to undergraduate students from diverse backgrounds. Visit
www.nasponline.org/resources/culturalcompetence/cld.aspx to learn
more about the program and how you can participate.
May is National Mental Health Awareness Month. I encourage you to
celebrate by highlighting the importance of mental health and
school-based mental health services to children's positive learning and
development. NASP has a number of suggestions and numerous resources
available at
www.nasponline.org/resources/mentalhealth/mhawareness.aspx
As you look toward the summer, I encourage you to consider attending one
of the summer conferences, Critical Skills and Issues in School
Psychology. As a NASP member, you qualify for a discounted registration
fee and, by registering in May, you can take advantage of the early
registration savings. This year's summer conferences will be held in
Atlantic City, July 21-23 at the Sheraton Atlantic City Hotel and in Las
Vegas, July 28-30 at Bally's Las Vegas Hotel & Casino. Come a day early
and take your pick of two pre-conference seminars. Visit
www.nasponline.org/conventions/summerconf.aspx for complete meeting
details and to register.
While considering your professional development schedule, you will want
to save the date for the NASP 2009 Annual Convention in Boston February
24-28, 2009. The Call for Proposals has opened; you can find out more
and submit a proposal at
www.nasponline.org/conventions/2009cfp.aspx
If you will be moving (home or school) or changing your e-mail provider,
please provide NASP with your new contact information by logging in at
www.nasponline.org and clicking
on 'View My Account.' Even if you are not moving, take a moment to log
in and complete your member profile information so NASP can better serve
you.
Thank you for joining me as a NASP member in 2007-2008. The NASP
membership year draws to a close on June 30. If you have not already
done so, I invite you to renew your membership online, or if you prefer,
by printing a personalized renewal form at
www.nasponline.org/membership/index.aspx
